The categories for screenplay at the Academy Awards were constantly changing over the first decade of the ceremonies. At the very first Academy Awards, there was an award for Best Writing Original Story and another for for Adapted Story. In the next year there was only a category for Best Story and that was changed to Best Writing for the 3rd year. At the 4th Academy Awards there was a Best Story category, but the Award for Best Adapted Screenplay had returned as well. It stayed that way for 6 years until the 11th Academy Awards in 1939 when Best Screenplay replaced Best Adapted Screenplay,
but Best Story remained. It was at the 13th Academy Awards in 1941 when Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay were finally introduced. The category Best Story remained a separate category until 1957 when it was finally eliminated. In all, there were a lot of changes made to the categories to get them to where they are now.

"Margin Call" takes place over a 36 hour period at a large investment bank in New York at the very beginning of the financial market collapse of 2007-2008. It stars Kevin Spacey, Zachary Quinto, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, Demi Moore and
Stanley Tucci. The primary focus was on Quinto's risk analyst and Spacey's floor manager at the firm. When Quinto's boss played by Stanley Tucci is fired, Quinto is handed an unfinished project that details how much money the firm is losing and how it is about to hit rock bottom. This sends the company into a tailspin and all the executives over the course of this one night start looking for a way to save their company and their jobs. Based on what happened in real life during this crisis, you pretty know what happens next, but this shows how something like that probably happened.

I thought "Margin Call" was a tight, well written movie that absolutely deserves the nomination for Best Original Screenplay. All the characters were written perfectly and the dialogue was
fast, quick and moving. I personally find money matters boring and this movie held my attention firmly from beginning to the very end. "Margin Call" was cast perfectly and all of the actors did a spectacular job throughout. I thought Paul Bettany's character mumbled a lot and it was hard to understand him sometimes, but overall as a whole they all did great.

Overall, I give "Margin Call" 4 out of 5 stars. I loved the writing and the all star cast delivered the script perfectly. I am a sucker for movies that take place over a short amount of time, I think it helps ratchet up the tension and although I knew what would happen at the end I was still on the edge of my seat. Good movie.
