This weekend was my brother's birthday, so to celebrate I took him to Catalina Island for the weekend. I have never been there before and he hadn't either so it seemed the perfect place to get away for the weekend and enjoy some new sights.
The boat ride there takes a little over one hour and was pretty relaxing. It was partly cloudy on the trip over there and somewhat chilly, so I failed to notice that my bald scalp was getting burned!! Luckily it wasn't bad & not too painful. We arrived around 2pm and got situated at our hotel. I didn't know what to expect & I had heard that there was not a lot to do on Catalina Island, so my brother & I decided to walk around a bit.

Catalina is a very quaint & scenic town, but after you have walked around it for 30 minutes, you have seen 90% of what there is to see. It was still nice for both of us to get out of town for the weekend. On Friday night, Dan & I had some dinner at a diner that promised pie selection but delivered only one choice and afterward we had a few brewskis and enjoyed the night.
On Saturday, Dan's birthday, we went out on a glass bottom boat tour. I had never been on a glass bottom boat and was curious as to how much you could actually see looking through the bottom of a boat.

The answer: Fish...lots & lots of fish....

It was a cool sight to see and the tour guide was good at driving the boat while describing what we were looking at even though he couldn't see it. It was a short tour that was only about 40 minutes long, but a cool and interesting one. After the tour we had lunch at an outdoor restaurant that had birds everywhere. The table was kinda dirty and birds were landing on other tables and walking all over them , including on the silverware on the table. I couldn't help but think that a bird may have walked on my silverware before I used it (a pleasant thought!).
For his birthday dinner we both had surf & turf at a local steakhouse. It was by far the best meal of the weekend. The lobster was fresh & delicious and the steak cooked just right. After dinner we both settled down with a few beers and enjoyed the second and last night in Catalina.
The boat ride back on Sunday was quick and before we knew it, we were back in our LA apartment watching Sunday football. Overall, it was a nice, relaxing weekend and gave us both the chance to recharge our batteries before starting up work again on Monday morning.
